    Professional Oral Hygiene

We recommend a regular dentist visit every six months for your dental health. Your dental hygiene appointment with us means more than just cleaning of plaque or tartar (calculus) off your teeth and gums. It allows us to detect the early signs of dental issues if any, and give the appropriate treatment before it becomes more complicated and severe.

Identification of a dental cavity or a small filling can save you a lot in dental bills at a later date because the dental procedure can become more complex if these small issues are not taken care of at the earliest or left untreated.

Routine dental check-ups enable us to demonstrate and educate our patients on the correct procedure of oral health care. It helps you in maintaining regular mouth hygiene at home in a correct manner.

At New Directions Dentistry we use Airflow Technology and Guided Biofilm Therapy to remove plaque and stains. It reduces the need to use the ultrasonic (electric) or manual instruments during teeth cleaning treatments. Airflow uses a high-pressure stream of warm water, air and a light powder which cleans teeth more efficiently and more comfortably.

    At Home Techniques

Oral care, when effectively performed, can ensure healthy teeth and gums, fresh breath, and a glittering smile. Your excellent teeth hygiene regimen at home includes:

    Daily Brushing

Brushing is one of the most common hygiene practices. We recommend you brush your teeth twice a day, at least for two minutes using a soft-bristled toothbrush. It helps in removing dental plaque as much as possible. We also recommend using an electric toothbrush based on the condition of your teeth and gums.

    Flossing

You may be brushing your teeth in the correct manner but, still, there are some areas inside your mouth where you won’t be able to reach properly – regular flossing helps in removing dental plaque that is hiding in between your teeth. We recommend using a fresh section of floss for each tooth, at least once a day to prevent the accumulation of plaque forming between your teeth.

    Mouthwash

We recommend an antibacterial mouthwash to help remove the bacteria that result in the accumulation of plaque. It also helps prevent gum inflammation called gingivitis.

    Diet

We believe that your eating habits impact your oral health and overall health. We recommend diet as an important part of your dental hygiene regimen. Our emphasis is to advise you on eating nutritional food to protect your oral health and to avoid excessive sugar and carbohydrate that promote tooth decay.
